I was introduced to sup racing three years ago. I had been sup surfing for about six months when a friend asked me if I would race one of his boards at Battle of the Paddle. I participated in the open race and I absolutely loved it. I was completely exhausted, but I welcomed the new physical and mental challenges that racing presented. Growing up, I played basketball and volleyball. Stand up paddle racing was appealing to me because I had good balance, I didn’t have to be tall or jump high, and I had a strong upper body. Also, it was really exciting to be competing as an individual, as I had always played team sports.
I am grateful for every opportunity I have to be on the water. I work full time at UPS- Supply Chain Solutions, and I teach sup lessons during the summer. I also work part-time at various school districts in LA County. When I’m not working or spending time with family, you can find me somewhere in the South Bay: paddling in Redondo, playing beach volleyball in Hermosa, or sup surfing in Manhattan. I enjoy meeting new people and sharing my passion for sup with them. I look forward to the upcoming race season and I’m stoked to be riding a Hovie Comet.
